Inspired by the race track, designed for the road the APEX AP-0 is an all-electric supercar concept is a super-fast mean machine ...
Combining futuristic aerodynamics with electric power for a contemporary supercar vision the lightweight British built APEX AP-0 which is scheduled to go into production in 2022 promises to offer a range of 320 miles on a single charge, a top speed of 190MPH launching from 0-60 MPH in just 2.3 seconds.
Reminiscent of a baby Koenigsegg or Lotus Exige the AP-0 concept is a closed two-seater coupe made from carbon-fiber meaning it is light weighing in at just 1,200kg, with most of this weight attributed to the floor mounted 90kW battery which provides for a low center of gravity, and better handling capabilities.
In terms of exterior dimensions, the AP-0 is rather smaller with an overall length of 172.4 inches being identical to that of the Porsche 718 Cayman, although the 104.3-inch wheelbase is 6.9 inches longer. The official images illustrates its very low ride height—just 3.7 inches of ground clearance—with motorsport-style pushrod suspension the same used by most F1 teams. Brakes are carbon-ceramic with six-pot calipers gripping the front discs.
Apex claim the AP-0 will be capable of Level 3 autonomy, which includes automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance, but Apex says the system is advanced enough for Level 4 (self-driving in all but the trickiest scenarios) when it becomes “safely achievable”, utilizing Lidar technology, with sensors mounted high up in the car's dramatic central fin, to generate a detailed, three-dimensional maps of the vehicle's surroundings. Apex said this technology will enhance its driver assistance systems by more accurately identifying potential hazards, pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles.
It also has a holographic augmented reality display and augmented reality race instructor, to help drivers learn new race tracks.
Scheduled to go into production Q4 2022 the Apex AP-0 will cost from £150,000 GBP (approx. $184,000 USD).
