Car's like everything in life have a shelf life, while some cars thrive and exceed expectations some models don't. So with this in mind we take a look at cars that will be discontinued ....
10. Lexus GS
The Lexus GS sedan was discontinued in August 2020, and both the USA and Japan marked the occasion with a special edition model. The GS which launched in 1993, and has gone through four generations over the past 27 years.
Before the final curtain is brought down on this model, Lexus has announced that it is offering the 3.5-liter V6-powered 2020 GS Black Line Special Edition in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options with just 200 versions of this model being made.
9. BMW i8
As the trailblazer for futuristic design and sustainable, dynamic driving pleasure -the BMW i8 Coupé and BMW i8 Roadster's production came to an end in April after sixyears.
The first plug-in hybrid model of the BMW Group will go down in the companies history as the world's most successful sports car with electrified drive with more than 20,000 units sold since the i8 hit dealerships in 2014.
8. Chevrolet Impala
After a long 62 year production run, the Chevrolet Impala was officially discontinued in February this year. GM states "The temporary closure of the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant next year have lead to the demise of both the Cadillac CT6 and the Chevrolet Impala"
paired also with weak sales with GM selling just 35,433 units so far this year, compared to 43,952 it's no wonder GM like its rivals at Ford are focusing on converting owners of discontinued sedan cars like the Impala into crossover and SUV owners and shuffle them into products like the Traverse and Equinox.
7. Cadillac CT6
As mentioned above earlier this year GM announced that because of the temporary closure of the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant next year both the Cadillac CT6 and the Chevrolet Impala will be discontinued.
The CT6 was Cadillac's first car to be equipped with Super Cruise™ driver assistance feature, along with an array of performance features and cutting-edge technologies, the CT6 let the driver enjoy a smooth, responsive drive every time. Like most sedans that are out of fashion these days, the CT6 will be sadly missed!
6. Ford Fusion
Ford announced that production of the Ford Fusion was scheduled to end in July ( US only). The four-door, mid-size sedan was introduced back in 2006 model year when sedan's were still popular! with a second-gen model debuting for the 2013 model year.
Over the years sales have slowly been declining with Ford stating that it is "reinventing its brand and expanding the sports utilty vehicle portfolio with the all-new Bronco and Bronco Sport, all-electric Mustang Mach-E and all-new versions of Escape and Explorer, America's all-time best-selling SUV."
5. Honda Civic Coupe
Looking through Honda's 2021 lineup two cars were notably absent the Honda Civic Coupe and the Fit which will both exit production this year. The Japanese automaker announced that the Civic Coupe and Fit production will end with the 2020 model year primarily because of poor sales as these days no ones wants to but 2-door coupes.
Honda also announced that the Civic Si sedan will hibernate for a year before returning for the 2022 model year.
4. Lincoln Continental
The last sedan standing in the Lincoln lineup, the Continental's will no longer be produced, whilst the Continental has disappeared and re-appeared twice before it seems the Continental's time has finally come to an end.
Lincoln reported its sales for the second quarter of 2020 with the Continental the brand’s lowest volume seller. With just 1,012 sedans delivered in Q2 and 2,575 sold in the first six months of the year. As a large luxury sedan Lincoln did try to throw the Continental a lifeline with an extremely limited-production "coach door" edition, but with only 80 units produced it was maybe too limited to actually improve the car's image among buyers.
3. Toyota Yaris
The Japanese brand’s smallest car offering will disappear from the lineup for 2021 ( US only). The move will see the Corolla become the most affordable new Toyota available on the market today.
Though the Toyota Yaris name departs from the U.S. lineup, the global Yaris will carry on in other markets. There's also a Yaris-based crossover planned for Europe, but it's unknown if that car might come here to fill Toyota's subcompact gap.
2. Dodge Grand Caravan
What once was a mainstay in the minivan world the last Dodge Grand Caravan, the fifth generation has finally ran out of road!
With an impressive 40-year lifespan, the Grand Caravan which was roughly updated every four to six years through its first four generations, this fifth-generation “RT” model has been with us since 2007.
